What is Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero?
Carbon Neutrality :
refers to reducing the total amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere to the lowest possible level. This can be achieved through reducing emissions, adopting more environmentally-friendly technologies and energy sources, and utilizing carbon offsetting measures. Carbon neutrality means that the net carbon emissions of a system (which could be a country, organization, or individual) are zero, where the amount of carbon emitted is equal to the amount of carbon removed or offset through various methods.
Net Zero:
This is a more macro-level goal, usually referring to achieving net-zero carbon emissions on a global scale. It not only involves carbon dioxide but also includes other greenhouse gases. The goal of carbon neutrality is to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions globally, through emission reductions and offsetting measures, to avoid irreversible damage to the global climate.
Both of these goals aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Carbon neutrality focuses more on achieving net-zero emissions within an individual or specific organization's scope, while carbon zero (Net Zero) is a broader, global-level target for net-zero emissions.
Achieving these goals requires global cooperation, with governments, businesses, and individuals taking action to reduce carbon emissions and offset any remaining emissions through various methods, contributing to the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable future.
